Nought SuiteRestore & Reserve

Sell it unfinished.
Reserve it while you restore it.

A WooCommerce workflow for one-off pieces. Buy unrestored, reserve with a deposit, follow the workshop, then pay the balance when the work is finished.

Why Restore & Reserve

Sell a one-off piece before it is finished, and keep it reserved while you restore it.

Restore & Reserve is for shops that sell individual pieces through a restoration. A customer can buy the piece at the unrestored price, or pay a deposit while it is in the workshop. That deposit locks the piece to them. Staff publish notes and photos, and the reserving customer is told when something changes. When the piece is finished, WooCommerce raises the balance order and the usual invoice. When that is paid, the piece is sold.

A better starting point

Each piece moves through Before, In workshop, Reserved, Finished and Sold. The deposit and the final balance are normal WooCommerce orders, so you keep the payment gateway you already use. The balance is the finished price minus the deposit already paid.

  • A one-off piece can be bought by someone else while it is still on the bench.
  • Deposits, workshop updates and the final balance end up in email and spreadsheets.
  • The payment window for the finished piece should start when the work is done, not when the deposit is taken.
  • Customers want to see the restoration, not a generic order status.

In practice

From task
to done.

How the product fits into the work you already do.

Reserve a piece, then finish it

  1. List the piece with an unrestored price, a finished price and a deposit
  2. Move it to In workshop when it can be reserved
  3. The customer pays the deposit through normal WooCommerce checkout
  4. Publish workshop notes and photos as the work progresses
  5. Mark it Finished to raise the balance order
  6. Mark it Sold when that balance is paid

Sell it unrestored

  1. Leave the piece in Before
  2. The customer buys it outright at the unrestored price
  3. No reservation, workshop timeline or balance order is opened

What’s inside.

The capabilities behind the product.

01

Unrestored and finished prices

Set what the piece costs as it is, what it will cost when the work is done, and the deposit that holds it.

02

One-off reservation locking

Once the deposit is paid, the piece stays with that customer for the restoration. Each product is sold individually.

03

Workshop timeline

Publish notes and photos from the WordPress media library. The reserving customer is emailed when an update goes out.

04

Private customer portal

The reservation page sits inside the shop theme, with status, policy, timeline, photos and the balance payment.

05

Final-balance collection

Marking a piece Finished creates the remaining WooCommerce order and sends the normal customer invoice.

06

Payment countdown

The countdown starts when the finished-balance invoice is created, not while the piece is still being restored.

07

Deposit and refund wording

Choose a policy preset or write your own. The wording states the shop’s rule. It does not replace statutory consumer rights.

08

Merchant dashboard

WooCommerce → Restore & Reserve shows stage, estimated completion, the customer, and final-payment deadlines. Product settings live on a dedicated product-data tab.

Fits your workflow.

01

WooCommerce

Products, checkout, orders, stock and the customer invoice email. WooCommerce must be active.

02

WordPress media

Workshop photos come from the media library.

03

Your payment gateway

Deposits and balances use the gateway already on the shop.

Technical details

Two WooCommerce orders

The deposit is one order. The final balance is a second order for the finished price minus the deposit. No card token is stored for a later charge.

Reservation records

Reservations, timeline events and idempotency keys live in plugin tables. Product settings stay on the product, not as raw meta for the shop to edit by hand.

Theme-owned storefront

Customer templates can be overridden from the theme at restore-reserve/. The reservation page uses the active theme header and footer.

HPOS

The plugin declares compatibility with WooCommerce custom order tables.

System requirements

  • WordPress 6.4 or later
  • PHP 8.1 or later
  • WooCommerce 8.0 or later

Privacy and security

Reservation emails and the customer portal include the buyer’s order details. Workshop notes are visible to the reserving customer. Refund wording is the merchant’s policy, not legal advice.

Questions

Can a customer buy the piece before any work starts?

Yes. In the Before stage they can buy it outright at the unrestored price. Reservation is for when the piece is in the workshop.

What stops someone else buying a reserved piece?

Paying the deposit locks that one-off piece to the customer. Products are sold individually. For the strongest stock protection, turn on WooCommerce stock management and keep the quantity at 1.

How is the final payment taken?

Marking the piece Finished creates a second WooCommerce order for the finished price minus the deposit, and sends the normal invoice email. The payment countdown starts then.

Can I change the deposit and refund wording?

Yes. There are four presets, and each product can override the wording. That text explains the shop’s rule. It does not override statutory consumer rights.

Does the customer page match my theme?

The reservation page renders inside the active theme. Templates can be copied into the theme, and colours default to the surrounding styles.
